Dr. Sam McConkey
Dr. McConkey received his MVB from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland in 1971. After arriving in Canada, in 1973,
he became an owning partner of Macleod Trail Animal Hospital. He holds a keen professional interest in small animal surgery.
When not at the clinic, Dr. McConkey is passionate about woodworking and restoring antique cars. You will also often find him tending to his “animal farm” which include two bulldogs, 2 horses, barn cats, a parrot, a lovebird, several chickens and a guinea fowl.
Dr. Joanna Pytka
After graduating from Lublin University in Lublin, Poland in 1985, Dr. Pytka had the honour of working with the police horses
in Rome, Italy from 1986-1989. Dr. Pytka has continuously practiced at Macleod Trail Trail Animal Hospital since moving to Canada in 1991.
She is fluent in four languages including Polish, Italian, and some German. Her two French Bulldogs, Zerda and Bogart keep her quite busy but she always tries to schedule time for her international theatre group, interior design, and travelling. Her professional interests include surgery and internal medicine.
Dr. Erin O'Brien
Dr. O’Brien joined us in 2011 after obtaining her Bachelors of Science at the University of Calgary in 2005 and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon in 2011.
She professionally enjoys preventive medicine, pain management, and endocrinology. When she’s not working, you’ll often find Dr. O’Brien travelling or spending quality time with family. In 2010, she opened her home to her two cats, Jack and Mowgli, whom she adopted from the clinic.
Dr. Michael Edwards
Dr.Edwards a native of Cape Breton, joined Macleod Trail Animal Hospital in 2012, after working in mixed animal practice. He has a deep rooted professional interest in ophthalmology and surgery. When you are in the clinic be sure to ask him why he named one of his cats “Barfi”.
Dr. Carlos Rodriguez
Dr. Rodriguez graduated, in 2003, from the University of Applied and Environmental Sciences in Bogota, Colombia and then went on to practice in Panama for 4 years.
In 2011, Dr. Rodriguez, came to Calgary and began practicing part-time at Macleod Trail Animal Hospital in September 2012. He particularly enjoys ophthalmology and surgery, and is fluent in Spanish. He is also quite a cat trainer because he has taught his cat, Thomas, to perform agility.
Dr. Christian Jones
Dr Jones joined us in February 2015 after graduating from Massey University in New Zealand. He has a keen interest professionally in pediatrics and pain management. A native Calgarian, Dr Jones enjoys hiking, reading, and travelling during any free time that he might get. Since returning to Calgary earlier this year, Dr Jones has been looking for the perfect four-legged family member to join his household.
